How to cancel a Google Play subscription
Short answer: on your Android device, open subscriptions in Google Play, select the subscription, tap Cancel subscription and follow the instructions. Make sure you're signed in to the Google Account that has the subscription. Uninstalling the app doesn't cancel it.
First: who bills you?
| Situation | Where to cancel |
|---|---|
| You subscribed inside an Android app and paid with Google Play | Google Play subscriptions (steps below) |
| You subscribed on the company's own website | That company's website |
| Amazon Prime bought in the Amazon or Prime Video Android app | Google Play, per Amazon: see our Amazon Prime guide |
| Billed by Apple | Your Apple account: see our Apple guide |

Can't find it? It may be on another Google Account. Switch accounts in Google Play and check again.
What happens after you cancel
You keep access until the end of the period you paid for, and you aren't charged again. Google's example: a yearly subscription bought January 1 and cancelled July 1 stays active until December 31, with no renewal on January 1.
- Payment plans: once a payment plan has been charged, you can't cancel the remaining payments; you can only stop it from renewing.
- Prepaid plans expire on their own at the end of the period, so there's nothing to cancel.
- Play Pass: your installed apps stay, but paid apps and in-app items unlocked by Play Pass lock again.
Pause instead of cancelling
Some apps let you pause. The pause starts at the end of the current billing period and can last from one week to three months, depending on the app.
- Go to subscriptions in Google Play and select the subscription.
- Tap Manage, then Pause payments.
- Choose how long, then tap Confirm.
To restart a cancelled subscription, open the same page and tap Resubscribe.
Heads-up: Google may place an authorization hold on your card up to 48 hours before a renewal, so a pending charge can show up before the renewal date.
Why your statement doesn't show the app's name
Google Play bills these subscriptions, so your statement usually names Google rather than the app. When you import a statement, Subloupe marks these charges "Billed through Google Play" so you know to look in your Google Play subscriptions, and you can rename each one once you've checked which app it is.
Find the subscriptions you forgot
Import a bank or credit card statement (CSV, OFX, QFX or PDF in Beta) into Subloupe to find every recurring charge you're still paying for, including the ones billed through Google Play, with what each costs per year. The file is read in your browser and never uploaded. Import and detection are free. No account, no bank login.
Calendar renewal reminders (.ics, for Google Calendar, Apple Calendar or Outlook) are a Plus feature in early access, free for everyone now.
