How to download your Scotiabank transactions as a file

Short answer: In Scotiabank online banking on a computer, open your account, pick a statement period, select Load more until every transaction shows, then select the download icon at the top. Scotiabank's help documents Quicken (QFX) and QuickBooks downloads; choose Quicken (QFX), which Subloupe reads directly. If you see a CSV option, it works too (Subloupe has a Scotiabank preset).

Before you start

Download your transactions in Scotiabank online banking

These steps come from Scotiabank's own help pages (see sources below).

  1. Sign in to Scotiabank online banking in a web browser on a computer.
  2. On the Accounts page, select the account you want.
  3. Select the statement period from the drop-down.
  4. Scroll down and select Load more until all transactions show and you see Current statement period total.
  5. Select the download icon at the top of the transactions.
  6. Choose Quicken (QFX) if offered. Scotiabank's help also lists QuickBooks; if you see a CSV option, that works too.

Repeat for each statement period you want: Scotiabank's downloads work one statement period at a time.

Which format to choose

Format Use it? Notes
Quicken (QFX) Yes, recommended Read directly, like OFX files from any bank
CSV Yes, if offered Subloupe has a built-in Scotiabank preset. Scotiabank's current help pages don't list CSV, so you may not see it
QuickBooks (QBO) Pick QFX instead QFX is the format we recommend
PDF statement No Subloupe can't read PDFs

How far back can you go?

Downloads work per statement period. Download several periods, one file each, then import them all at once.

One month of statements is enough to start; add more months to catch yearly renewals. If your bank limits each download, save several files that cover consecutive periods and import them together. A few days of overlap between files is fine.

Import the file into Subloupe

  1. Open the statement import.
  2. Drop your file or files, or choose them. Your browser reads them on this device: nothing is uploaded, and Subloupe never asks for your bank login.
  3. A QFX file is read directly. A Scotiabank CSV, if you have one, is recognized by the built-in preset.
  4. Select Add to dashboard to review. Nothing is decided in the import window: what it found appears on your dashboard under To review. For each charge, choose Keep, Not a subscription, Pause, Cancel it or Delete, or use Review all to Confirm all or Dismiss all at once. Phone, internet and energy bills are grouped under Bills and are only added if you tick them.

FAQ

Why do I need to select Load more first? Scotiabank's help says to load every transaction in the period (until you see Current statement period total) before downloading, so the file includes all of them.

Can I download several months at once? Scotiabank's downloads work one statement period at a time. Download each period, then import the files together.

Is it safe to import my bank statement? The file is read in your browser and never uploaded. Only what it finds is saved, in your browser, for you to review; the file and its transactions are discarded. You never share your bank password.
